Starting the file server
You can start the server manually or set it to start up automatically each time your computer starts up.
To start the server manually:

Open Mac OS Server Admin and log on to the server you want to administer. |

Press the File Services button and choose Start Server. |

To set automatic startup:

Open Mac OS Server Admin and log on to the server you want to administer. |

Press the File Services button and choose Configure File Server. |

In the General panel, select "Start server on system startup." |
Stopping the file server
IMPORTANT: When you stop the server, connected users will lose any information they haven't saved. Users who are not logged on, Windows users, FTP users, users with older versions of the AppleShare Client software, and Web site visitors cannot receive the shutdown message.
To stop the server:

Open Mac OS Server Admin and log on to the server you want to administer. |

Press the File Services button and choose Stop File Server. |

Type the number of minutes before the file server stops. |

If you like, enter a message in the Additional Message box. |

The shutdown message appears once every hour until the final hour, then every 10 minutes, then at 5 minutes, 2 minutes, and 1 minute before shutdown. |
|
Users can't log on to the file server during the final 5 minutes. |
